12 Questions from
Twinkley
1. Can you give our readers a little background about yourself.
What did you do before you got in this business?
Twinkley: Before I got into adult, I
was floating around trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life.
I was a waitress at Disney for a while, an admin assistant (glorified
secretary), and a call center rep for a well known cell phone company. I
ended up getting into the industry by answering an ad in the newspaper for
a Customer Service position ... for TrueCash!
2. How did your previous job/profession help you in what you do today?
Twinkley: Really, nothing could have
prepared me for leaping head first into this industry. It is 100% unique
from any other job I have held before ... obviously the right job since I
have been at it 6 years now!
3. How do you feel about having one of the longest running adult internet
radio shows today?
Twinkley: I love it! Pillow Talk is my
pride and joy ... as well as being my outlet to the webmaster community.
Pillow Talk gives me the freedom to voice my opinions on whats happening
in the "adult" world, and gives my listeners a chance to get inside my
head for an hour each week. The fact that it's lasted three years blows my
mind. I have to show love to
webcamcash.com, they took a chance on me when no one else would and
look at how well we have done together!
4. You are going back to college what courses are you taking and what will
that do for you in the future?
Twinkley: I started back to school last
year, after deciding that I loved the radio gig too much to give it up. I
am a broadcast journalism major, with a minor in communications. I never
thought I would say this, but I
LOVE school. It's a completely different experience to go to classes when
its something you actually
want to do. I will be taking a lot of basic courses this term, including
International Politics and World
Geography.
5. What is your daily routine like?
Twinkley: One of the greatest things
about working in adult, is the daily routine changes almost daily.
Typically tho I will get up, make some coffee (im a coffee-addict big time
now) sit down and check email, say good morning to the guys of YNOT, work
through some customer service, webmaster listings (I run the YNOT Service
Directory), and see what this weeks "big project" is. From there I could
be building free sites, building advertising campaigns, working on traffic
strategies ... my job pretty much runs the gamut of everything and
anything I have the skills to do.
6. You're a gamer whats your favorite games? How many hours a week do you
play?
Twinkley: Well, I don't get nearly the
time I would like to play anymore, but I am still hooked on Final
Fantasy XI, fondly referred to as "FFXI" by anyone who plays. I love Role
Playing Games, even though they have a bad tendency to eat up MAJOR
amounts of time. There is nothing quite like sitting down "for a few
minutes" to play, then realizing you have been so immersed in the game,
you have been sitting there for a couple hours.
7. What is the most important thing you have learned over the years in
this industry?
Twinkley: Be nice, or at the very least
respectful of the people you meet and deal with in the industry. Too many
times I have seen someone blow off a newbie, only to see that newbie rise
to the top of the industry in months. People remember how you treat them
in the days when they were "nobody" and will carry that impression around
with them for a very long time. The people are the lifeblood of this
industry, get to know them, hear what they have to say, learn from them.
Its the easiest, and definitely the most fun way to soak up knowledge on
the industry.
8. What is your favorite part about working in this business?
Twinkley: The freedom. This is the only
industry where people can choose to work all day, all night, weird hours,
weird schedules, fly off on vacation at a moments notice. Working on the
net means really being able to work from just about anywhere ... as long
as you have a decent internet connection. I have sat in a hut on a beach
in Jamaica in checked email, with the most spectacular ocean view staring
back at me. It allows me the freedom to spend time with my family, do my
job, go to school, travel and meet new people
on a regular basis. You really can't beat that!
9. If you were starting all over today, would you do anything differently?
And if so what would that be?
Twinkley: The only things I think I
would do different, if I had to do it all over again, is I would have
started earlier, snatched up as many cool domains as I could, and have
started a couple of awesome niche paysites when everyone else was still
doing the mega site thing. I got started fairly late in the biz (1999) but
even so, there were still TONS of opportunities to be had, and I believe,
there still are!
10. What are three things would you like to see changed (be it positive or
negative) in this industry, tomorrow, a week from now, or a year down the
road?
Twinkley: I would like to see the whole
.xxx thing go away, quickly and quietly. It's just plain bad for the
industry as a whole. I would also like to tell the people who consistently
blow everything that happens in the industry out of proportion to "chill
out." It seems like the biggest thing this industry is losing as a whole
is optimism. Adult has faced decades ... centuries if you wanna really go
back, of adversity. They aren't going to destroy us, and they aren't going
to get rid of adult material. Hang in there, there are ups and
downs to any business ... and this is a phenomenal business to be in!
11. What would you say are the biggest obstacle(s) facing in the adult
industry today?
Twinkley: I think the biggest obstacle
this industry has always faced, and continues to face is its own lack of
cohesiveness. I know its not going to magically vanish, but I would like
to see webmasters pull together more. Just because you are willing to
throw in with a group for the collective good doesn't mean you will lose
control over your own means. It just means you are helping to create a
greater good. That good could be something as simple as making sure that
we protect each other from the people out there that would like to see us
all go away.
12. Any new projects in the near future you would like to share with our
readers?
Twinkley: All I can say about new
projects right now is this ... Go check out
ynotpayment.com, it's kicking ass
in the payment processing department, and keep an eye out on the YNOT
Service Directory we will be launching a VERY cool new system on it
this month!
