12 Questions from
Andy
of
JustUsBoys.com
1. How long have you been in the adult industry?
Andy: I have
been working in the adult business since late 1998.
2. Can you give our readers a little background about yourself? What did
you do before you got in this business?
Andy: Before I
began working in adult, I worked in the hospitality industry with
companies in North Florida, where I handled menu creation, purchasing, and
planning for future events.
3. How did your previous job/profession help you in what you do today?
Andy: Working in
the hospitality industry taught me a lot about planning and presentation,
and what effect it can have on the sales of a product. I think a lot of
that applies to adult websites and videos as well.
4. What is your daily routine - of and with the maintenance of your
website?
Andy: My daily
routine consists of a great many things. I do a lot of research and
development, as well as writing about what’s new in the world of porn for
our members of JustUsBoys.com.
5. What is the most important thing you have learned over the years in
this industry?
Andy: I think
the most important thing of all is listening to your visitors (or
members). A lot of people think that just because they aren’t receiving
emails (or phone calls) from members that they aren’t saying anything,
which 9 times out of 10 is not the case. You’re getting feedback all the
time. It could be as simple as getting no clicks on a new link to
increased sign ups from specific areas because of an ad they’ve seen for
your site. A surfer can say a great many things without opening
their mouth.
6. Can you tell us about your website – what it is and what it offers?
Andy: We have 3
main websites…
JustUsBoys.com is a free gay
community with over 3,000,000 page views per day, over 100,00 members, and
a very active chat forum. Users can create their own free profiles and
blogs, so it's become a place where gay men can come together, meet each
other, make friends and have fun.
JubMag.com is the site for the Just Us
Boys magazine. People can download the current issue here, find stats on
distribution, ad rates, and deadlines.
Mesmerotic.com
is our webmaster program where we offer 60% recurring payouts, or $30 per
sale. We'll build custom sales tools for webmasters that need them as well
as offer a nice selection of other tools.
Mesmerotic is
the affiliate marketing division of South Beach Media Group, Inc., which
has been an active member of the adult online industry since 1998.
7. What is your favorite part about working in this business?
Andy: One of the
things that I love about working in this business is the fact that I’m
always learning new things and putting what I’ve learned to practical use
for our 1000’s of members and the hundreds of webmasters that we work
with.
8. What is your least favorite part about working in this business?
Andy: That there
aren’t enough hours in the day!
9. If you were starting all over today, would you do anything differently?
And if so what would that be?
Andy: Honestly I
don’t know that I would have changed much, if anything. I work for one of
the best companies that anyone could ask for and they really push me to
learn, grow, and better myself. So I honestly don’t think I would change
much.
10. What piece of advice would you give yourself if you were just starting
out in this industry?
Andy: The best
piece of advice I can give a new webmaster is to always keep learning and
trying new things! Look at us, JustUsBoys.com started out as a link list
and now it is one of the largest gay communities online today. We have the
JustUsBoys Magazine that currently
has over 65,000 copies distributed across the U.S. and Canada, and our
membership sites and webmaster program. There is no way that we could have
those things now if we didn’t learn, grow, and try new things.
11. What are three things would you like to see changed (be it positive or
negative) in this industry, tomorrow, a week from now, or a year down the
road?
Andy: The first
thing I would change is the theft. Why a webmaster might feel that it is
his (or her) right to steal someone else’s work is beyond me.
The 2nd thing that I would like to see is the gay market place held with
the same reverence as the straight market place. For many years gay
companies were considered almost a 2nd class. Which is stupid because
we’re VERY open about sex, and don’t mind spending that hard earned money
to get it.
And the 3rd thing I would change was not learning to program php and XML
sooner! LOL
12. Any new projects in the near future you would like to share with our
readers?
Andy: Hmmm,
there are a great many projects in the works that I can’t go into at this
time.
However, I will say to look for more consumer marketing avenues. One thing
we do WELL is put companies in front of tens of thousands of gay men the
world over.
